Gregory is originally from South Africa and holds a bachelor’s degree in classical music. He enjoys yoga, gardening, playing the piano, eating a plant-based diet, and going for walks in Forest Park.

Your acupuncturist will want to know a lot about you in order to understand how to treat you. It's normal to answer a lot of questions, especially at your first visit.
Everyone experiences acupuncture differently. Some patients feel warmth, heaviness, pulsations, or very mild aching at the needle site. Patients tend to notice relief or changes in symptoms 24 to 48 hours after their appointment, and sometimes results can even be immediate; individual results vary. Come prepared to take it easy for 30 to 45 minutes on the table. The needles do their work while you rest!
It will probably take a few sessions before you start feeling noticeably better. Always discuss reasonable expectations with your acupuncturist. Don't delay treatment! Early intervention is far more likely to be successful. Depending on your issue, you might be required to make dietary or lifestyle changes or take herbal medicine in order to maximize results.
Should herbal medicine be necessary, your acupuncturist will provide you with a formula in granulated or powdered form that is made into a tea by adding hot water. Very often you will take this formula twice a day for a certain amount of time as determined by your acupuncturist. Chinese herbal medicine is primarily plant-based, although a few herbs are minerals or animal derivatives - your acupuncturist will always advise you of the contents of your specific formula.
Chinese herbal medicine is gentle, relatively safe and has little to no side effects when taken responsibly. Always discuss any and every medication you are on so as to minimize any possible herb-drug interactions. As long as your acupuncturist is aware of all the medications you are taking, there is no need to be worried about using Chinese herbal medicine.
