Dr. Gregory Winn is a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Oregon. He earned his doctorate in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine from the Pacific College of Health and Science in San Diego, CA. His method of treatment combines Tung acupuncture (a style widely practiced in Taiwan) with traditional Chinese and auricular acupuncture. In addition to treating acute and chronic musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain as well as urological conditions, Gregory enjoys helping those with gastrointestinal illnesses, stress, and metabolic problems like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
Gregory is originally from South Africa and holds a bachelor’s degree in classical music. He and his husband moved to Portland in 2024, and they love the beauty and culture of the Pacific Northwest. When he’s not working in the clinic, Gregory enjoys yoga, gardening, playing the piano, eating a plant-based diet, and going for walks in Forest Park.
Gregory looks forward to working with you and being a part of your journey to better health.
Each appointment lasts 45 minutes and typically comprises both assessment and treatment. Sometimes an initial visit will comprise just assessment/evaluation, depending on the nature of the problem and/or what insurance you carry. In addition to acupuncture, treatment might also include other modalities such as cupping and infrared therapy (and in very special cases, bloodletting). Very often, herbal medicine will also be prescribed.
As of 4/1/25, Dr. Gregory is accepting cash-only patients while he finalizes contracts with insurers.
Please check back regularly for updates regarding which insurance plans will be accepted.

Your acupuncturist will want to know a lot about you in order to understand how to treat you. It's normal to answer a lot of questions, especially at your first visit.
Everyone experiences acupuncture differently. Some patients feel warmth, heaviness, pulsations, or very mild aching at the needle site, while most feel nothing at all. Patients tend to notice relief or changes in symptoms 24 to 48 hours after their appointment. Sometimes, results can even be immediate. Come prepared to take it easy for 30 to 45 minutes on the table. The needles do their work while you rest!
It will probably take a few sessions before you start feeling noticeably better. Always discuss reasonable expectations with your acupuncturist. Don't delay treatment! Early intervention is far more likely to be successful. Depending on your issue, you might be required to make dietary or lifestyle changes or take herbal medicine in order to maximize results.
Should herbal medicine be necessary, your acupuncturist will provide you with a formula in granulated or powdered form that is made into a tea by adding hot water. Very often you will take this formula twice a day for a certain amount of time as determined by your acupuncturist. Chinese herbal medicine is primarily plant-based, although a few herbs are minerals or animal derivatives - your acupuncturist will always advise you of the contents of your specific formula.
Chinese herbal medicine is gentle, relatively safe and has little to no side effects when taken responsibly. Always discuss any and every medication you are on so as to minimize any possible herb-drug interactions. As long as your acupuncturist is aware of all the medications you are taking, there is no need to be worried about using Chinese herbal medicine.
